We are a growing movement of grassroots community groups working together to build disaster
resilience across the Northern Rivers of NSW.
We believe when disasters hit, it's community that steps up first.

Since early 2024, more than 60 groups from across the Northern Rivers have joined together to form the Northern Rivers Community Resilience Alliance. Through regular gatherings, deep conversations, and shared experiences, we are shaping a powerful, community-led network focused on collective care, preparedness, and regional strength. Our region is on the climate frontline, experiencing more frequent
and severe floods, fires, storms, and heatwaves.
Our Embedded Researchers
In their 2025 report, “Collaboration between disaster agencies and communities key to future disaster resilience”, Dr Jo Longman and Emma Pittaway examined the evolving relationship between agencies and grassroots groups in the aftermath of the 2022 Northern Rivers floods.
The work of UCRH continues to guide our path forward: as we strengthen the voice and capacity of community in shaping a more resilient future.
